*Three Sisters

bc three sisters

Susan Mallery’s novel “Three Sisters,” is a chic lit/romance/beach read all wrap up into one. The three sisters are actually three neighbors who through circumstance end up becoming close friends.

We first meet Andi Gordon running to a new life after being left at the altar.  She buys an old, rundown house between two beautiful but different homes.  Andi meets her neighbors Boston King and Deanna Phillips during the construction to her home.

As the women tackle everyday challenges they all begin to come closer together and help each other.  Underneath the normal bump and grind of daily life, the three women have each experienced a loss.  Each loss has had a significant effect on them.  It will be the glue to their friendship after an initial period of distrust and indifference.

Mallery weaves a tale of emotional growth, healing and love.  However, in the real world problems are not so well managed.  But, that’s what a beach read is all about.  Enjoying a book that ends well and leaves you with a content feeling.

My book club was mixed on this book.  Some liked it’s easy, page-turning prose and some thought it just too shallow.  We spoke about the protagonists losses and how they would related in our worlds, especially Boston’s lost.  We also talked about marriage and what is and isn’t okay.

Romance readers like happy endings and this novel ties everything up with a big pink bow.

As summer approaches it may be a perfect pick for a long weekend on the beach!
